Sam Can You Can

In March this year I ticked one thing off my bucket list – walking the challenging and enchanting Overland Track in Tasmania.  My friend Helen, who walked with me, loves exploring the outdoors and nature’s beauty and has a fabulous eye for photography.  She snapped away as we walked, capturing some incredible shots that gave all the walkers some everlasting memories and a reminder of this life-changing trip.  But these photos weren’t just for us, they were for her ten-year-old son Sam who would spend hours poring over the photos, reliving Helen’s trip in every detail. Sam will never be able to do a trip like this due to his paraplegia.  Or so he thought!

On our return, I spent a lot of time thinking about Helen, Sam and their family, and how I could help put Sam in these beautiful shots. So I hatched a plan!  And now, thanks to the support of some great mates and organisations, Three Capes Crew was born.  In March 2018, a group of wonderful (and strong) friends will carry Sam for two hours each per day, for four days, in a custom backpack over the 50km Three Capes coastline track.  Sam is beyond excited.  And so am I!!  Sam is an amazingly active and independent kid who has not let his disabilities define him.  He swims, cycles with a modified bike, kayaks and skateboards using his hands instead of his feet, just to name a few activities.  And now he will be able to add bushwalking to his list of achievements.
Sam has received great assistance from Variety the Children’s Charity, Tasmania in his everyday life and with some of the above activities, so he and his family would like to give back.  Therefore, this will not just be a walk for Sam, but a walk to assist children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have additional needs. The campaign is called Sam Can You Can and Me Time Experiences is proud to support this wonderful initiative and Variety the Children’s Charity, Tasmania.  Our goal is to raise $20,000 and we’d love your help.

You can check out the Sam Can You Can Facebook page and we’ll also be posting updates about fundraising events and our training and then eventually the walk, or you can go to the link below and make a donation  Every little bit helps.  Thank you.  March will be here in no time.  Better get training!!
